Chapbook Parade

I got so many goodies in the mail last week. So… many…

Now, I know not everyone’s heart breaks over saddle-stitched ephemera. But mine does. And I can’t be totally alone.

1. Zachary Schomburg and Ben Estes collaborated on two chapbooks from Factory Hollow Press. They took turns writing and illustrating. FHC printed 50 each. Ben says, “Poopy Nogood and her Phantom Band sang to me” and Zachary says, “I taught myself how / not to have feelings / in my legs.”

2. Shane McCrae. One Neither One (Octopus, 2009) Racial tension. Peculiar mock-line-breaks. I wasn’t expecting such a serious collection of poetry when I picked it up. It got heavy so suddenly I had to put it down. But then I went at it again, and was impressed that Shane could do three things well at once: write about history, write personal narrative, and write poetry.

3. The Entire Greying Ghost Press Catalog. Including more from Zachary S. (The Pond) and in Corduroy Mtn #1, a sampling of our very own (Seattle’s, that is) Brandon Shimoda.
