Letters to Wendy’s
by Joe Wenderoth (Verse Press, 2000)
What if that homeless guy who likes to wear his pants around his ankles and stroke the back of your head as you walk by on the street (actually happened) was also a brilliant deconstructionist language defiler?
Ahem.
I’ve been carrying this book around in my purse, waiting for any occasion to pull it out and read to people… but the moment never comes. “Letters to Wendy’s” feels like it should be sound-bite-worthy – it’s that witty and illogically hilarious – but it’s all based on the most profoundly anti-social character that to read from it out loud to another human being… would just be painful. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a glowing review.
